As a Junior Engineer, you will support the development, testing, and commissioning of PLC, HMI, and SCADA software solutions for water and wastewater treatment plants operated by United Utilities. Working within industrial automation environments, you will contribute to the delivery of control system solutions across treatment works and process plants, while gaining hands-on experience in software development, testing, commissioning, and customer engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA software solutions using Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms.
  • Support the creation of software documentation, including Software Design Specifications and Functional Design Specifications.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities and support customer demonstrations.
  • Commission tested software at water and wastewater treatment plant sites.
  • Support customer sign-off activities and maintain system documentation and backups.
  • Assist with service support activities, troubleshooting, and device configuration tasks.
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure successful delivery of automation solutions.
  • Follow engineering and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential skills/knowledge/experience:

  • Understanding of PLC, HMI, and SCADA development using Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms.
  • Understanding of industrial automation documentation and engineering deliverables.
  • Basic understanding of Operational Technology (OT) environments.
  • Basic understanding of control systems, instrumentation, and electrical circuits.
  • Understanding of industrial historians and data collection systems.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites for testing and commissioning activities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable skills/knowledge/experience

  • Full UK driving licence or willingness to obtain one, with ability to travel to customer sites as required.
  • Good verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers and multicultural teams.
  • Interest in industrial automation, water industry operations, and control systems engineering.
