My placement honed my responsibilities as a project engineer, from procurement through to safety and the successful implementation of design. It increased my water treatment and practical engineering knowledge to a level where I became comfortable communicating my ideas for future projects.
The mentoring I received from my supervisor gave me insight into daily operations and into ergonomic considerations that are often overlooked in engineering design. The standard operating procedures (SOPs) provided a strong background for understanding flow paths within the different water treatment processes. The support from all departments fostered a sense of comfort in the working environment and enhanced my interdisciplinary communication skills.
I believe my strongest impact was through my ability to communicate and bring teams together, both on projects and during social events. Furthermore, my aptitude for and strengths in procurement led to savings on recurring costs and project builds for the company.
The applicant must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, given the nature of emergency projects, and open to undertaking challenging tasks.
I would recommend Ecolutia to anyone who seeks the thrill of seeing a project through its full life cycle and takes genuine ownership of their craft.
