GeoEnergy Design (GED) is a building services engineering start-up, providing design consultancy on decarbonisation projects from domestic to utility scale, with a focus on the integration of heat pumps and other low carbon technologies.
We are widely regarded as one of the most experienced specialist design teams in what is rapidly a growing sector. Uniquely the directors have extensive hands-on experience as designers and installers, commissioning, operating, optimising and maintaining over 400MW of heat pumps in the UK.
We are retained specialist advisers to the Government, NHS, Schlumberger, National Trust, Landmark Trust, Skanska, WSP and many of the larger consultancies.
Our first commission was for Amazon and this year we have been involved in an award winning all electric building in New York.
We are passionate about and experienced in efficient and robust design, making use of established, but underutilised, heat pump technologies to help solve the climate crisis.
The key stages of our design process are outlined below.
We work with our clients to produce a concept that can be carried through to the next stages of design. By assessing physical assets and financial limitations, we can develop solutions to suit any site at any scale, be it for heating, cooling or electricity generation.
We compare the financial, environmental and logistical factors associated with a project, assessing the potential benefits and challenges for a concept. We would propose a basic design solution to allow other factors such as planning to progress.
We develop detailed mechanical and electrical schematics and complete description of operations ready for installation. With full autonomy over system operating logic we can minimise redundant system components and maximise efficiency.
With a completed mechanical schematic and equipment schedule, we can assist the client with planning drawings, 2D plant layouts and even 3D system models.
Throughout the installation and commissioning process, GeoEnergy will conduct site visits to snag the installation and ensure design has been adhered to. Installing and operating a system as designed is critical to meeting performance targets.
After systems have been installed, GeoEnergy can continue to monitor them and hold installers to their performance promises. This ongoing monitoring also allows us to suggest improvements to the system operating principles to further boost efficiency and carbon savings.
