Hamzah Ahmed joins us as Head of Innovation. He holds a wealth of experience in the Power Systems Industry with a career spanning nearly a decade. Hamzah has already contributed to our innovation projects, leading the development of several Network Innovation Allowance (NIA) and Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) submissions, contributing to tool and automation development and leading the facilitation of industry roundtable events. Hamzah is also Chairman of the IET Manchester Power Technical Group, a position he has held since January 2024 and where he oversees a taskforce responsible for the promotion and dissemination of cross industry engineering knowledge.
Previous roles held include Network Lead at a renewable developer, Principal Consultant at TNEI, Senior Power System engineer position at Energy Systems Catapult as well having almost 7 years’ experience at National Grid, in roles spanning both the ESO and Transmission Owner functions.
During his tenure at Energy Systems Catapult, he served as a Technical Lead and Senior Consultant on various engineering projects, delivering multiple Long Duration Energy Storage initiatives along with comprehensive technical and Route to Market analyses, both domestically in GB and Internationally. His experience at National Grid includes System operation, outage planning, compliance studies, long term reinforcement studies and conducting Network Innovation works.
Hamzah is known for his innovative problem-solving abilities in both market and technical domains and has led many Innovation Consortiums successfully applying for grant funding and consistently adopts a proactive approach in resolve engineering challenges in the pursuit of net-zero.
Outside of work, Hamzah enjoys working on project cars, hiking and travelling.
