Andreas Nikolaou

Power Systems Consultant

Andreas has joined Blake Clough as a Power Systems Consultant. At Blake Clough, At Blake Clough, Andreas has been working on time-domain EMT studies such as Insulation Coordination and Dynamic Stability Studies. Upon joining BlakeClough, Andreas successfully delivered Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) and Zero-Miss Phenomenon studies for the Luichart Wind Farm, a project commissioned by SSEN. Additionally, he has completed EMT validation studies for a series of projects. Andreas has also demonstrated expertise in automation by developing and contributing to scripts for streamlining studies in PSCAD and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.

Andreas holds a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and an MSc in Electrical Power Engineering from Northumbria University, Newcastle, in addition to a PhD from Imperial College London, where he was part of the Control and Power Research Group.

During his PhD at Imperial College London, Andreas’s research centred on power system modelling and analysis, with a specific focus on the voltage support provided by photovoltaic systems operating in Grid Forming mode. He has a publication under review in IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, which addresses optimal dynamic voltage support using Grid Forming Inverter technology.

At Blake Clough, Andreas utilises his extensive expertise to foster innovation and develop technical solutions.
