Molly Steele

HR Support Apprentice

How long have you been with National Gas?

I started at National Gas in April 2023 on an 18-month rotational Apprenticeship scheme.

What are the main tasks in your role?

As part of my role in the People Function, I have been involved in various tasks including:

  • Establishing & developing National Gas' Employee Value Proposition
  • Annual reward and compensation cycle activities
  • Aligning the DEI events calendar to the belonging plan and strategy
  • Enabling the onboarding of new starters, conducting pre-employment screening/ RTW checks
  • Working tickets raised by employees via the back end of our HR systems

What does a day in the life look like?

With the rotations in each team of the People Function and the different projects I get involved in, every day looks different. However, as I am nearing the end of my apprenticeship, my primary focus is my End Point Assessment Project. This involves establishing and implementing a solution to a current process/ problem within the business with support from a variety of stakeholders.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Having the opportunity to learn so much from my colleagues and collaborate with each team is what I enjoy most about my role. The People team encourages an environment that is authentic, collaborative and supportive which makes working within it genuinely enjoyable.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining a Graduate programme?

My advice to someone considering an Apprenticeship at National Gas would be to get involved in as much as you can. Having the opportunity to gain a qualification, whilst rotating between teams, learning about the business and your own interests is an invaluable experience!
