Our Services

Acoustic Modelling

Helping our clients to understand acoustic concepts and design choices. Sol use specialist software to produce detailed 3D virtual models to accurately simulate how sound waves interact with different materials and design elements on the projects and developments we work on.

Building Fabric Design

The required level of sound insulation between internal spaces is determined, based on relevant guidance, statutory requirements or Client aspirations. Constructions to achieve the required sound insulation are then advised, based on structural intent, architectural considerations, dimensional constraints, cost etc. Advice is provided on all building types, including residential buildings and hotels, offices, schools, health centres and hospitals, cinemas and theatres.

Compliance Monitoring

Work on Construction Sites often produces high levels of unwanted noise, vibration, and dust so Local Planning Authorities often impose restrictions to minimise the impact to nearby residents and businesses. Sol Acoustics all-in-one solution successfully provides live monitoring of key noise, vibration, and dust parameters during demolition, piling, and general construction to provide instant alerts across a number of Construction Sites.

Noise Impact Assessment

Sol Acoustics carries out noise surveys both at home and abroad in accordance with British Standards and Local Authority requirements. The measurement of external environmental noise levels is a fundamental requirement for many building types, in order to determine the prevailing levels of noise able to impact upon on a proposed Development or to determine the existing background levels of noise at nearby sensitive receptors.

Building Services

The adequate and cost-effective, practical control of noise and vibration from M&E plant, both internally to areas served and also to the environment, is of paramount importance for many schemes, ranging from large scale mixed use projects (typically with embedded Energy Centres, smoke ventilation, roof mounted condensers and other plant), to industrial projects with external plant. Sol can provide a full acoustic design service for projects.

Acoustic Testing

To demonstrate compliance with a project’s acoustic performance requirements, Sol Acoustics carries out sound insulation testing in part-completed or completed buildings in accordance with the relevant British Standards. Sol Acoustics is a member of The Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) and is qualified to perform sound insulation testing under the ANC’s accredited testing scheme to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of Approved Document E of the Building Regulations.

Vibration & Structure borne Noise

Sites are often affected by ground-borne vibration, such as that generated by trains and trams. This vibration can lead to audible noise within buildings due to structure borne vibration transmission. Sol Acoustics are able to predict the potential levels of noise within buildings due to vibration sources. The likelihood of disturbance can be demonstrated by sound simulation (‘auralisation’) of the vibration source. Where required, potential remedial measures can be specified such that appropriate noise levels are achieved within the building.

Noise Control

In addition to M&E noise and vibration applications, Sol has considerable experience in the field of industrial noise control, in terms of diagnosis, design and overseeing implementation, be this for occupational noise reduction and/or environmental noise control. Sol’s Consultants have the necessary industrial and Mechanical Engineering expertise to understand bespoke industrial plant and processes and how best to achieve cost-effective noise control solutions, as may be required.

Room Acoustics

Sol Acoustics employs in-house prediction techniques and proprietary 3D modelling software to predict the behaviour of sound within rooms and spaces, to ensure that the acoustic characteristics are appropriate and complement the proposed use. Design advice is given for a wide range of building types including lecture theatres, schools, offices (including large atria), theatres, concert halls, studios, music rehearsal spaces, cinemas, court buildings etc.
