I chose Aston Martin for my industrial placement because it’s such an iconic brand that embodies quality and heritage in the automotive industry—plus, getting to work alongside beautiful cars is a definite bonus! The variety of placements offered at Aston Martin really caught my attention, especially since my studies in International Business Management provided a solid foundation but didn’t showcase the different areas I could explore, like procurement. This opportunity allowed me to dive into a specific field while being part of a brand I truly admire.
As a graduate, what I enjoy most about the culture at Aston Martin is how deeply the company’s values are woven into everything we do. During my induction, I was impressed by the commitment to diversity and inclusion, particularly through the insights shared about the diversity and inclusion network. It’s clear that Aston Martin welcomes individuals from all backgrounds and embraces uniqueness.
The sense of community and collaboration here is also remarkable. I feel supported by my colleagues, who genuinely encourage each other’s growth. Being surrounded by experienced professionals who willingly share their knowledge makes me feel valued and motivated to learn.
Additionally, senior team members truly listen to our ideas and respect our input. From the very beginning, I felt that my contributions were taken seriously, which has fostered a sense of belonging and collaboration. This collaborative atmosphere empowers me to take initiative, knowing that my perspective matters. It’s incredibly motivating to be part of a culture where every voice is heard, and I’m excited to contribute to the future of such an iconic brand.
A key thing that sets Aston Martin’s graduate program apart is the blend of hands-on experience and a strong emphasis on personal development. Part of the program incorporates a manufacturing rotation that provides hands-on experience across various departments, giving graduates a comprehensive understanding of the production process and the intricacies of the brand’s craftsmanship.
Additionally, from the beginning graduates are entrusted with real responsibilities that have a tangible impact on projects. This level of trust fosters a sense of ownership and encourages us to contribute our ideas actively. The combination of practical experience and support from experienced mentors makes this program truly exceptional in the industry.
During my time as both an industrial placement student and now as a graduate in the same role, I’ve gained valuable insights into the operational and strategic aspects of the business. As a placement student, I learned the fundamentals of procurement, how to maintain supplier relationships, and the importance of teamwork. This experience helped me grasp how each decision influences the overall success of a project.
Now, as a graduate, I’ve built on that foundation and delved deeper into strategic procurement practices. I’ve learned to analyze data related to contracts and suppliers, enhancing my technical skills while further developing my collaboration and communication abilities working within cross-functional teams.
Overall, these experiences have solidified my passion for a career in indirect procurement. I now have a clearer vision of my career path and the skills I need to continue growing in this field.
My advice would be to fully embrace the experience and approach it with an open mind. Take advantage of the unique opportunities for hands-on learning and diverse rotations, as they will give you a deeper understanding of the company and its operations.
Don’t hesitate to ask questions and seek advice from your mentor/peers; the wealth of knowledge and experience around you is invaluable. Be proactive in sharing your ideas and expressing your goals—this is your graduate experience, so make the most of it to shape your future.
