About Us

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan ahead to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow, always. 24/7, 365, we provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

That means over 5 million customers, and the millions of people who visit Yorkshire each year, rely on us, every day. 140,000 businesses also depend upon the water we supply and the wastewater we take away to provide goods and services that support the economy – not only in Yorkshire, but across the United Kingdom and beyond.

Here's just a few interesting facts …

We collect 1 billion litres of water every day and send it out through our 1,000km’s of pipes to 5.7 million people in Yorkshire and 140,000 business to enjoy. We run over 670 water and treatment works and look after 72,000 acres of reservoirs and countryside.

Our Strategy

We’ve built a new strategy we’ll use as we work to get from where we are now, to achieving our ambitious vision of ‘A Thriving Yorkshire: Right for Customers. Right for the environment’. By doing the right things for our customers and the environment, we can, in time, help create a thriving Yorkshire. This isn’t a new idea, it’s what we’re here to do and our strategy is the vehicle that will help us get there.

Our Vision

A Thriving Yorkshire. Right for customers. Right for the environment.

A region famous for its stunning beauty and natural environment, where communities can grow and prosper in a flourishing economy. Where anchor institutions like Yorkshire Water invest in infrastructure, create jobs, and support skills development and education – and work in joined-up leadership with other organisations across the region.

Doing what’s right for customers

  • Quality drinking water that tastes great
  • Bills that everyone can afford
  • An easy and reliable service that’s tailored to customers’ individual needs

Doing what’s right for the environment

  • Keeping wastewater in the pipes to reduce pollution
  • Protecting our precious water resources by reducing consumption and leakage
  • Eliminating carbon from our business to achieve net zero

Our Plans for 2025-2030

All water companies must produce business plans every five years. The business plans set out what water companies intend to deliver for customers and the environment.

These plans must follow a specific process and then be submitted to Ofwat – the water industry’s economic regulator. Ofwat will assess the plans and make decisions about the amount of revenue we can recover from customers through their bills that can be spent to deliver the plans.

We look beyond five years to ensure that we’re making good decisions for our customers and the environment – now and in the future. This is our business plan for the period 2025 to 2030 which forms the first five years of our 25-year Long-Term Delivery Strategy.

This means achieving the following outcomes:

  • Deliver safe, clean, great tasting water and ensure we can continue to meet water demand in future.
  • Provide a tailored, reliable service and make sure that we are easy to interact with, in whatever way our customers choose to get in touch.
  • Deliver value for money to our customers, keep bills as low as possible, and offer the right support to customers who struggle to pay.
  • Build and operate efficient, climate-resilient infrastructure to provide reliable services for our customers.
  • Reduce pollution and sewer flooding, improve river quality, and enhance biodiversity across the region.
  • Reduce carbon emissions towards net zero across our business and supply chain.
