Heat Network Graduate

The Role

The role of a heat network graduate is for those who have high analytical skills and adaptability, combined with an interest into energy, net-zero and the rapidly growing industry of heat networks. It is for candidates that enjoy a job that can change from day to day, requiring problem-solving skills and adaptability while obtaining a wide array of experience in the different departments of the business.

My daily tasks include analysing schematics of heat networks and creating excel spreadsheets to summarise the cost of maintenance of each plant item. This would also include finding quotes, supply chain manufacturers, and subcontractors to help achieve this.

I also supported both the Sales team and the Bid team with tasks such as the creation of monthly financial reports, tender preparation work, and site visits to record the condition of equipment that we would be adopting. I have found that, thanks to the support of my team, my skills have developed quickly, and I have been given increasingly more responsibility.

Throughout my time at Switch2, I have received plenty of training that has helped me in my role. Examples of this are receiving training on HYSOPT, a software used to design heat networks, as well as introductions to every department of the business to enhance my understanding of the industry as a whole.

My responsibility

In the short time I have been at Switch2, I have been given responsibility over many activities, such as the creation of monthly financial reports, completing costings of schemes and project-managing one of Switch2’s larger sites. I have been impressed with the amount of responsibility I have been given in such a short period of time.
