Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) is the largest subsidy-free wind farm in the world today. Located about 18-35 kilometres off the Dutch coast, spanning 225 km2, HKZ received first power in Summer 2022 and is fully operational since 2024.
The 1.5 GW wind farm will comprise 139 Siemens Gamesa 11.0-200 DD wind turbine generators. The generated power, transferred to the onshore grid via two TSO TenneT offshore transformer stations, will provide clean energy equivalent to the consumption of over 1.5 million Dutch households.
Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm, is located around 27km from the coast of Angus in the North Sea. The 1,075MW wind farm features 114 Vestas turbines and an offshore substation. First power was achieved in August 2022, with electricity transmitted via subsea cables to a point near Carnoustie and then to the Tealing substation via underground cables.
The wind farm provides enough green energy to power more than 1.6 million homes, equivalent to two-thirds of all Scottish homes and will displace over 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from electricity generated by fossil fuels every year.
In 2018 Seaway7 was awarded the contract for the turnkey engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) works related to the inner array grid and export cable system of the Offshore Wind Farm Yunlin project.
The offshore wind farm Yunlin is located approx. 8 km off the coast of Yunlin County within the Taiwan Strait on the west coast of Taiwan. The OWF consists of 80 wind turbine generators, each with a capacity of 8 MW and is based on an inner-array grid and export cable system of 81 66 kV aluminium core submarine composite cables with a total length of up to 272 km.
The offshore works commenced in 2021 with HDD tunnels to prepare cable pull-in to shore, and in 2022 cable lay for the first large offshore windfarm in Taiwan started, with final export cable being laid in October 2023. In 2024 the installation of the submarine cable system will continue by utilising dedicated in-house resources such as Cable Lay Vessel Seaway Aimery and Installation Support Vessel Seaway Moxie.
