Q: When did you start your first role at the Environment Agency?

A: I joined in June 2025 as a Summer Intern.

Q: Tell us about your career journey so far.

A: I started as a Summer Intern for three months and then moved into an Industry Placement in September 2025.

Q: What inspired you to join the Environment Agency?

A: I wanted a role that gave me a sense of purpose. Working at the EA means contributing to a bigger mission—thinking about the bigger picture and how my day-to-day work helps achieve environmental objectives.

Q: What was your first impression of the EA?

A: I received a warm welcome and found the programme well-structured with clear objectives. My line manager and mentor gave me the confidence to apply my skills, prepare for interviews, and bring my best self to work while prioritising safety and wellbeing.

Q: What does a typical day look like?

A: It varies depending on the project. Some days involve meetings, collaboration, and knowledge sharing; other days are focused on technical tasks, independent learning, and problem-solving.

Q: What learning opportunities have helped you grow?

A: I’ve had access to technical resources and courses that boosted my confidence. Presenting to large groups also strengthened my communication skills.

Q: Can you share a project you’re proud of?

A: I built a Power BI dashboard from scratch to analyse sensor data from lakes and monitor water quality in real time. It was my first experience with Power BI and made a tangible impact.

Q: What skills have you developed?

A: Time management, communication, and technical skills—all foundational for my early career.

Q: How does your role reflect your values?

A: My work uses data-driven insights to support environmental sustainability, aligning with my commitment to making a positive impact. It also helps me achieve my goal of applying advanced analytics and geospatial tools to solve real-world challenges.

Q: What did your role teach you that academia didn’t?

A: It taught me how to solve problems in real-world contexts where decisions have immediate environmental and societal impacts. I also learned the importance of stakeholder communication and practical constraints beyond theory.

Q: What advice would you give to someone thinking about joining the EA?

A: The EA is a great organisation that cares about its people and offers plenty of opportunities to develop and explore your interests.

A: I love the flexibility and the understanding that the best work happens when you feel supported and
