About us

Part of the SPS Technologies family, located in Leicester, England, T.J. Brooks manufactures bolts, pins, screws, nuts, and collars for aero engine and airframe applications.

T.J. Brooks Ltd, was established in 1936, manufacturing press tools for the hosiery industry. During WWII, the company began manufacturing bolts for the Spitfire fighter aircraft and has continued to expand its range of aircraft parts ever since. SPS Technologies acquired T.J. Brooks in 1979.

Scope of COOP project:

Improve the timeliness and quality of IT responses from end users requesting assistance for any IT related problem that has been raised through the IT Support phone line and Web Helpdesk.

Expected result from project (What is the physical outcome/financial benefit to the business):

  • Timely response from IT in responding and resolving issues raised by users.
  • Reduction in the number of outstanding tickets held in the Web Helpdesk system.
  • Reduction in the time taken by IT to resolve issues raised.
  • Improved relationship between end users and IT members.

Person Specification:

  • Enthusiastic and keen to learn.
  • Good listener and willing to try things, develop and learn from any mistakes.
  • Enjoys the challenge of a fast moving and changing IT environment.

Expected learning outcomes for the candidate:

  • Understanding of IT department operational activities and Business needs.
  • Importance of standards, documentation, communication and planning.
  • Develop communications skills and ability to interact with users at all levels.
  • Learn technical skills to support and resolve hardware and software problems.

Description of key elements to be achieved (What must the candidate be capable of achieving):

Candidate must be able to grasp the benefit of using Information Technology in a Business environment and learn how its deployment can impact Business performance. Be able to understand the pressures users are under to deliver against deadlines and how IT issues can affect the user’s ability to meet these deadlines. 

Any other information that is essential in carrying out the role:

  • General understanding of PC’s and Microsoft Office products.
  • Interested in a career in IT, but not specifically IT Helpdesk Support.
