Here at DNV, what we do matters. Whether it’s helping the Energy Industry transition to a more decarbonised and sustainable future or helping safeguard life, property and the environment, every day, what you do will make a difference. This is our shared purpose and one our people are proud to be part of.
At Spadeadam Research and Development, large scale hazards testing is carried out. Our experts test and develop products and processes for a range of industries with the aim of safeguarding life, property and the environment, and developing next generation solutions. Our site provides a challenging environment where you are encouraged to care, dare and share – both to shape your career and to create a positive change in the world.
We have a truly unique opportunity for an Ordinance Munitions Explosives Apprentice to join our team here at our specialist research and testing centre at Spadeadam.
Our Ordinance Munitions and Explosives (OME) technicians work closely with our world-leading technical experts, to support the delivery of complex, potentially dangerous, high-risk projects. You will therefore learn to carry out a range of technical, engineering and scientific activities which may include field-based investigations to help inform and shape current and future industry safety standards.
You will join us on a permanent contract during August, with your degree apprenticeship programme formally commencing from early September and lasting approximately 60 months and upon completion you will be awarded the industry recognised Level 6 Ordinance Munitions and Explosives (OME) Professional (Integrated Degree) standard.
Hopefully as you can tell, a career in OME is challenging, stimulating and dynamic. Working alongside our current explosives team on real projects, you will gain extensive hands-on experience of setting charges through to detonation. You will learn how to utilize scientific and engineering knowledge to bring OME ideas from concept to reality. This is all whilst implementing preventive measures to avoid unplanned fires or explosions.
For your Degree Apprenticeship, you will study the tailored research and development pathway, attending University of Wales, Trinity St David (Swansea Campus) on block release sessions (currently 2 weeks at a time every 6-8 weeks).
Don’t worry about additional travel and accommodation costs, as we cover these, but as these off-the-job learning blocks in Swansea are a critical element of your learning, the time away from home may not be for everyone, so please consider whether you can make this long-term commitment.
It is important to understand that the nature of our work means that you will regularly spend time outside, on-site at Spadeadam, collaborating in all weather, with our delivery teams and witnessing our tests and research first hand. The projects you will support, the environment you will work in and the people you will engage with, make this role like no other. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but the opportunity to be part of making a real difference to people’s lives and the future of our planet is immense.
As you progress, you’ll have the opportunity to experience working across a mixture of larger and more complex projects here at our world-famous Spadeadam Research and Testing site in Cumbria.
On our Apprenticeship programme you’ll be stretched but always supported, so don’t worry if right now a lot of what you will be doing sounds very complicated and new! You will be surrounded by people committed to helping you learn and develop and providing you with everything you need to succeed, including opportunities to embark on further training and gain additional qualifications.
One of the best things about a Degree Apprenticeship, is that you don’t need to have previous experience. We do however, want people who share our genuine interest in engineering and our industry, demonstrating a desire to learn new skills and develop yourself within this exciting area.
If you possess the desire, initiative, and curiosity to develop your skills and career, then our Degree Apprenticeship programme could be for you.
We value all our people and the contributions they make to our business, so it’s important that our rewards make us all feel valued here. That’s why we offer a flexible reward and benefits package, allowing you to choose the things that matter most to you, including;
We appreciate that applying for an Apprenticeship opportunity, for some, can be a new or daunting experience, which is why we try to make our process as simple, transparent, and as engaging as possible.
Our process really is as simple as that, so what are you waiting for? Good Luck!
