We bring some of the greatest minds in our industries together to create an environment that will drive the innovations of tomorrow.

About us

BMT is a maritime-orientated high-end design house and technical consulting firm driven by a passion for solving complex, real-world problems.

With around 1,300+ professionals located in 27 offices in the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe, we draw upon a wide range of experience and expertise to provide high-quality, high-value products and services.

From initial concept through to design, construction, operation, and eventual decommissioning, we support customers at every stage of the project lifecycle. Our customers across the world buy outcomes: cost-effective solutions to business problems that require technical excellence, independent thinking, and innovation.

Our team are uniquely placed to understand the challenges in designing secure, resilient systems. We work with diverse clients and their suppliers on a wide range of projects, including designing next-generation secure systems and demonstrating cutting-edge technology solutions. Our work makes a true impact across multiple industries, ensuring that systems we all rely on remain secure and available in some of the most complex environments.

Our purpose

We exist to navigate the most important and impactful engineering challenges of our time. We create environments where people with outstanding technical knowledge deliver meaningful, practical solutions. We are driven by a commitment to a safer, more efficient, effective and sustainable future.

A history of BMT

Formed in 1985 from the UK's British Ship Research Association and National Maritime Institute merger, our heritage includes the water tanks where the famous 'bouncing bomb' was developed during WWII and major, more recent advances in computer-aided design and aerodynamics.

Our commitment to investing in people and high-quality research has enabled the modern BMT to continue the pioneering maritime spirit: from designing the world's most advanced aircraft carrier to creating new measuring and monitoring systems for the offshore oil and gas industry.

We have played a key role in commercial shipping in landmark events, including the investigation into the 1987 sinking of the RoRo ferry, Herald of Free Enterprise. We have helped to test and improve the design of some of the world's tallest buildings and fastest racing cars on land. We were also part of the European Space Agency development team.
