Software Engineering Industrial Placement

AI, Computer Science, Software, IT.

Put your love for smart tech to use

The Group Chief Operating Office is what makes us who we are. It’s one of the largest parts of Lloyds Banking Group, bringing together the technology, engineering and operations teams that keep the business moving.

Think finance isn’t for you? Think again.
From cracking code to crunching data, from finance to green ideas, this is where you get to change up the status quo.

Our software engineers sit in platform teams across Group COO, with each platform aligned to a different part of the business. That means they work with teams across commercial markets, pensions, retail banking, mortgages, HR, Finance or Risk – building the services they need to do their best work.

And as a Software Engineering Placement Student, your work will be anything but behind the scenes. You’ll help design, build, and maintain the applications, platforms, and digital services that millions of customers and colleagues rely on every day. From mobile banking and cloud infrastructure to AI-enabled solutions, you’ll use your smarts to decide what banking looks like tomorrow.

One year. Real impact

Throughout this placement, you’ll do everything a Junior Software Engineer does. And while you build your technical expertise within a specific team from the outset, your impact will be felt throughout the business.

Expect to:

  • Develop your capability through a blend of structured learning and hands-on experience
  • Get exposed to real business challenges in real environments
  • Transition from learning to delivery at an unmatched pace
  • Keep up with the latest software engineering practices, tools and technologies

What your work could look like

  • Work with experienced engineers, product teams, architects and tech specialists to build software that makes a real difference for customers and colleagues
  • Get stuck into coding with languages like Java, Python, TypeScript, Kotlin, Swift, Rust and Golang
  • Learn how modern engineering works in practice, from cloud development and automation to continuous testing
  • Help improve the apps, digital journeys, APIs, AI-enabled tools and platforms that people across the bank rely on every day
  • Use technology to solve real problems, improve experiences and help the business work better
  • Build your confidence as an engineer while learning how software is designed, developed and delivered at serious scale

Support in your corner

You’ll get:

  • A chance to not just build on your existing knowledge but also grow in areas you’re interested in
  • The opportunity to learn directly from software engineers and technical specialists who know what they’re doing
