Roles and Responsibilities
As a Civil and Structural Graduate, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of civil and structural schemes. You will be involved in all stages of the project - from initial development, through to detailed design, costing, procurement and installation.
You will collaborate with our experienced professionals to contribute to the design, maintenance and development of critical infrastructure, supporting both new projects and asset integrity updates. Some duties include:
Supporting the design, maintenance and development of critical infrastructure, including new projects and asset integrity upgrades.
Contributing to short and long term maintenance strategies, including turnaround and shutdown planning and delivery.
Participating in site surveys, inspections and condition assessments of existing assets.
Developing and implementing inspection and survey programmes for structures, stacks, silos, secondary containment structures, drains, sumps, pits, roads, rail track, fireproofing and cooling towers.
Helping to develop and implement a new Civil & Structural Database for inspections and surveys.
Appraising existing structures and supporting the design, analysis and detailing of strengthening or modification solutions for steel, concrete, timber and masonry structures.
Developing temporary works solutions, such as temporary supports for new equipment, scaffold supports, superlift arrangements, deep excavations and loading assessments of existing structures.
Preparing engineering drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports.
Liaising with consultants, specialists, contractors and plant owners to gather information and develop safe, effective and practical solutions.
Providing civil and structural input throughout project development, from front-end loading and design assurance through to procurement and construction implementation.
Supporting Management of Change (MOC), root cause analysis (RCA), reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) and other engineering processes as required.
Qualifications and Education
BEng or master’s degree in civil and/or structural engineering (or a similar approved qualification, HND)
Good engineering/technical knowledge
A good understanding of structural analysis, design and detailing principles.
Familiarity with relevant design and modelling tools, such as Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds, Advance Steel, Navisworks or AutoCAD.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
An interest in working towards chartership with ICE, IStructE or another recognised professional organisation. This is advantageous but not essential.
We really value previous work experience gained through industrial summer placements, internships, and work experience. Make sure you tell us about this if you have it, particularly where you have developed your team-working, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
