We are looking for the technology leaders of the future who are well grounded with practical engineering skills and a passion for hands-on development.
The James Walker Graduate Development Programme will give the right candidates the opportunity for rapid development and accelerated promotion in varied, challenging and fulfilling roles all supported by world-class training.
Participants will benefit from a 2-3 year programme comprising 8-12 month placements within different James Walker companies; working across all aspects of advanced materials, design, production technology and customer engineering support; experiencing a wide remit in each company, then changing posts and working in a new role and new James Walker company in order to build a broad expertise and influence across the business.
The opportunity to deliver impact to the business is a reality of the programme; a typical project might include the development of a business case with the marketing team, the search and identification of a new technology capable of meeting the business need, the development and delivery of the technology through to validation and customer use.
Our engineers enjoy challenging and varied work; from surveying and installing product at major plant (e.g., power, military, chemical, oil and gas) to defining and shaping product strategy, to developing new products and participating on major industry bodies.
A broad range of development opportunities is available to supplement your on-the-job training. You are allocated a senior mentor to provide help and advice.
You will be encouraged to identify your career development needs with help from your line manager, and your mentor.
The programme is intensive with scope to develop expertise in materials science, seal design, product testing and validation, manufacturing methods, modelling, leadership and management. We are seeking to develop the next generation of directors for James Walker for both technical and management roles.
It is likely that first placements will be based in Cockermouth in Cumbria, UK as part of the James Walker New Technology Group developing and validating new engineering and materials technology, and working in partnership with Universities and third parties.
A second role is likely to be based within product design or production at a manufacturing site, and a third role is likely to be based within a sales company working alongside the sales team directly with customers. It is fully expected that at least one role will be outside of the UK.
Candidates must have entitlement to work in the UK, must have/expect to achieve a high class degree (minimum 2.1) and must be fluent in English. Skills in other languages would be advantageous.
Applications are sought from graduates qualified in...
This is a direct entry route after the final year of a degree. The graduate scheme consists of two to three years of structured training and placements, following successful completion of the programme then the opportunity to work and lead the business forward in a choice of geographical locations is possible.
