Join us as an apprentice at the BBC to give yourself the opportunity to kick-start your career in a job you'll love. We’re committed to your skills and talent development. You’ll learn on-the-job, developing your knowledge and skills in an area that interests you, whilst working towards your apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.
As an apprentice within our team, you will be right at the heart of the BBC's digital first world, developing and maintaining the systems that audiences rely on every single day.
Imagine this: The code you write helps deliver the suspense of EastEnders on iPlayer, the freshest tracks on Sounds, the minute-by-minute drama of a breaking news story, or the thrill of a live goal on Sport.
Echo Team
My team is part of Data Sourcing, we’re responsible for the ingestion of user behavioural data for analytics purposes. We work with libraries which form a part of all the BBC apps and online experiences you’ll be familiar with, specifically iOS and Android in this team, and we work closely with mobile app teams as well as data analysts.
The kinds of work we do include mobile library development, using Swift and Kotlin; we also take testing and continuous integration seriously and use BDD with Cucumber and Github Actions for CI/CD.
Audience Portal Team
Our team looks after a set of tools that help people across the BBC understand how audiences are using content and service. As an apprentice, you'll help build and improve products that turn large amounts of information into something people can easily understand and act on.Some of the tools we work on include:
You won't just be maintaining these tools. You'll help us improve them, solve problems, add new features and make them easier for people to use. You'll work alongside engineers and product manager as well as working closely with our data colleagues, learning how ideas go from a conversation to a finished product used by teams across the BBC. We don't expect you to arrive knowing everything.
What's more important is being curious, willing to give things a go and not being afraid to ask questions. In return, you'll get support, mentoring and the chance to work on projects that have a real impact on how teams across the BBC understand their audiences and make decisions. If you enjoy technology, like solving problems and want to learn while working on products used every day, we'd love to hear from you.
As a Software Engineer apprentice (SED27), this is a brilliant opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute – you will:
You’ll study for your industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on-and-off-the-job. This means on successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be awarded with an Undergraduate Degree (Bachelor of Science with Honours) in Digital and Technology Solutions Professional (Software Engineer pathway) from a UK University, and you will be supported to find a job role within the BBC’s Technology or Product delivery teams.
We’re interested in your passion for working at the BBC and your enthusiasm for delivering world-class content and operational excellence to our audiences. We’re not focused on your qualifications; instead, we look for potential and offer you the opportunity to apply your transferable strengths and experience to work in different ways.
If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply:
