“Hi, I'm Anibe and I'm currently completing the Accounting and Taxation Apprenticeship at BBC Studios. The programme combines practical experience within a finance team with professional study towards my accounting qualification and wider apprenticeship programme.”
“The BBC was an organisation I’d admired for as long as I can remember. From the news and sport to television, radio, music and even Bitesize at school, it’s been part of so many moments that shape our lives. I realised quickly while at university I wanted to build a career in finance within the television and media industry. The BBC finance apprenticeship was particularly appealing because it was a chance to gain professional qualifications alongside practical work experience. As an apprentice I have dedicated study time built into my working week, which has helped me balance my work and development. It's also extremely fun to be part of a wider apprentice cohort and share the experience with others who are on a similar journey.”
“I'm currently part of the Actuals and Reporting team within the Americas Finance Team, supporting areas including consumer products, licensing and digital media. A lot of my day-to-day work involves using Excel, SAP and other accounting systems to analyse, process and reconcile financial information. I also help prepare balance sheet reconciliations and reporting that explains financial performance and major variances. The role requires a lot of problem-solving and finding efficient ways to present financial information, which is something I've really enjoyed developing.”
“Since joining BBC Studios, I've grown significantly in confidence. Working in a large organisation has helped me become much more comfortable reaching out to people across different teams and asking for support when I need it. I've also developed my technical and analytical skills, particularly in Excel, problem-solving and presenting information clearly. The role has challenged me to think differently and adapt to more complex financial data than I'd previously worked with.”
“The scale of the organisation surprised me most. In previous roles, I was used to working in much smaller teams, whereas the BBC operates on an entirely different scale. Learning how to navigate such a large organisation and connect with people across different areas was something I hadn't fully appreciated before joining.
I was also surprised by the scale of the financial information and analysis involved, which has pushed me to develop new ways of working and problem-solving.”
“My biggest piece of advice is to be yourself. Try to be as genuine as possible and let your passion for both the scheme and the BBC come through in your application. The experiences you've had, whether through education, work or other opportunities, are what make your perspective unique.
If interviews make you nervous, practise with someone you trust or record yourself answering questions. The more comfortable you become talking about your experiences, the more naturally your enthusiasm will come across.”
