Heraeus Electro-Nite UK is inviting applications for a 12-14 month placement starting in July 2027. The work will involve research and development in measurements for molten metals, particularly molten steel; possible work may include continuous temperature or gas measurements.

The placement is suitable for students studying materials science, metallurgy, mechanical engineering or a related subject. Previous molten-metal experience is not required.

Position Overview
Assisting in the design, development, and testing of mechanical engineering solutions.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive engineering projects from concept to completion.
Conducting research and gathering data to support engineering analyses and evaluations.
Contributing to the optimisation of existing products or processes through continuous improvement initiatives.
Supporting the troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues.
Participating in meetings, workshops, and training sessions to expand knowledge.
Requirements
Right to work in UK
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in materials science, metallurgy, mechanical engineering or a related subject.
Strong academic record with a focus on mechanical engineering principles and practices.
Solid understanding of CAD software and other engineering tools.
Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and ideas.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Proactive and self-motivated with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.

HEN UK Facilities:
Mechanical: Comprehensive machining workshop (manual & CNC equipment), welding, and fabrication equipment. Materials & mechanical test equipment.
Materials: Including refractory manufacturing and testing equipment, materials and mechanical properties test laboratory, Liquid metal (steel plant) testing, SEM, optical microscopes, and sample preparation labs.
