What’s the business all about?

 The business is Gala Graphics, part of the Gala Tent group consisting of Gala Tent, Gala Graphics, Gala Performance and Gala Technology. It’s Britain’s first and largest supplier of marquees and commercial pop-up gazebos. Gala set up the first ebay shop in the UK in 2000, and now, they sell more than 15,000 structures every year. Gala Tent have won numerous awards, including the biggest accolade in the “Oscars of the IT industry” for their fraud prevention system. You’ll be working to build websites for a business which supplies products to Legoland, the RSPCA and Google.

What would you be doing? 

You’ll be contributing to the overall technical direction of Gala Graphics and should be enthusiastic about bringing new technology and innovation to the team. Typical activities in this role might include:

  • Developing new features for Gala’s e-commerce channels and maintaining and updating websites
  • Building solutions and improving agile processes
  • Developing solutions that adhere to development best practices
  • Supporting applications across all test and live environments
  • Working along side the marketing team to further develop new and existing platforms
  • Bringing your own ideas forward for new and existing channels


Starting an internship

What type of person are they looking for?

The successful candidate for this role will:

  • Be a graduate from any degree discipline, with self-taught coders particularly welcome
  • Able to code in core Java 7/8 development
  • Ability to understand and translate business requirements into technical specifications
  • Appreciation of design constraints/principles that lead to maintainable code
  • Bright, inquisitive and quick to learn 

It would be great if you had the following but don’t be put off if not!

  • A good understanding of database access and schema design (MySQL, Hibernate)
  • Familiarity with HTML5/CSS3/JS, Web Services (HTTP, ReST, JSON) and version control systems (e.g. Git) and Continuous Integration (Jenkins)
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems for managing workload and collaboration
  • Familiarity with Java web frameworks
  • An understanding of code testing techniques, such as Unit Tests (TestNG, Junit) and code coverage• Server administration and configuration skills covering both Windows and Linux
  • Experience with other programming languages, such as PHP, Classic ASP or Node.js
