Lead Software Engineer

At Cadence, we hire and develop leaders and innovators who want to make an impact on the world of technology.

Cadence, a world leader in Electronic Design Automation tools, is currently looking for a talented software engineer. The ideal candidate will be a CS or CS/EE undergraduate in their final year, or a recent postgraduate, and will work on innovative solutions for Virtuoso; our market-leading flagship mixed signal electronic design application.

The successful applicant will join a world-class team of software engineers developing C++ for Virtuoso design entry and layout tools. They will contribute to software design, implementation and test for maintenance of our current software releases and future innovative enhancements, driven by our customers' need to adopt new and advanced technology.

Based at our Livingston office near Edinburgh, the vibrant capital of Scotland, you will have the opportunity to work as part of an highly experienced local team in a global R&D organisation.

How Electronics are Driving the Coolest Features in Today's Cars

With vehicles now boasting hundreds of electronic components, designing automotive applications is no longer just about the chip. It's about the entire system, encompassing chip, package, and board. This video illustrates why a holistic approach—which Cadence calls system design enablement—is critical in enabling today's cars to detect roadway hazards, provide navigation and entertainment, support functional safety requirements, and much more.

About you

You will have had exposure to Object Oriented Design, preferably in C++, and a knowledge or interest in electronics. Experience with Qt, Lisp, SKILL, EDA tools or analog electronic design is not essential but would be a welcome addition. Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a good honours degree; 2:1 or higher in Computing/IT, Software, Hardware or Systems Engineering.

The successful candidate should also:

  • have the ability to communicate and present effectively
  • be able to work and integrate well in a team environment
  • have a pro-active attitude to problem solving and optimisation
