Technology Material Process Analysis

This year we are offering a 6 month internship in the material and process analysis team at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars to start July 2019.

Materials and process analysis supports Rolls-Royce motor cars by providing a fault finding and validation service. The number of requests is high and you will be exposed to all the different technologies and materials present in Rolls-Royce.

The internship will focus on improving the material and process analysis team knowledge in the field of leather and wood testing in collaboration with the production and engineering departments.

Key Accountabilities

You will be a full member of the team and will be exposed to the full range of tests performed. Your main responsibilities will be to carry out tests as requested by our internal partners with a focus on leather and wood covered parts.

Materials and process analysis in Goodwood has a wide scope and you will be required to help in the day to day activities gaining an extended knowledge on automotive materials


We offer a competitive salary of £17,500 per annum and a range of benefits including a pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and a subsidised on-site restaurant. As well as being surrounded by many fellow interns throughout your internship you will be supported by our experts in your chosen field.

Please note that our undergraduate placement opportunities are only open to students who will be returning to their final year of study following their placement with us.

Qualifications and experience

We are looking for students interested in gaining an extensive knowledge on automotive material testing of interior trim and external paint:

  • Preferred degrees are: leather technology, wood engineering or technology
  • Suitable degrees are: Materials engineering, process engineering, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering.
  • You should be studying a relevant degree on track to achieving at least a 2:1. 

You will need:

  • Materials behaviour knowledge
  • A firm grasp of statistical principles
  • A pro-active attitude for influencing and bringing your ideas to the table
  • Very good communication skills, verbal and writing
