Roger Leyland was a partner at HSF Kramer and the first Black partner at a leading City firm. He served as a sitting governor on the Council of the College of Law, demonstrating his deep commitment to supporting the growth and development of young lawyers. This scholarship is a tribute to his legacy and a testament to our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The Roger Leyland Memorial Scholarship is more than just financial support; it's an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, build meaningful relationships, and kickstart your legal career. We're excited to welcome you to our community and support you on your journey to becoming an outstanding lawyer.
The scholarship is open to students from a minority ethnic background interested in a career in commercial law. Applicants should be in their first year of a three-year course or second year of a four-year course from any degree discipline. You must be a Rare Recruitment candidate to apply.
We look for candidates with a strong and consistent academic record. We typically look for a minimum of AAB at A-level (or equivalent). At university, applicants should be on track to achieve, or have achieved, consistent 2:1s across modules, with an average mark of 63% or above in each year of study (or the international equivalent).
If mitigating circumstances have affected your academic performance at any stage of your education, we strongly encourage you to explain these in your application, as they will be taken into consideration.
