Reynolds are a manufacturer of steel and titanium tubing, predominantly for the premium cycle market. Reynolds draws, bends, and reforms high strength tubing and manufactures arts by 3D printing. We have a global presence with a reputation that goes back over 100 years.

Brief description of the Project:

We are moving our shopfloor operations from an Excel and paper based system to a digital MRP system. The project is in 2 phases. Phase 1 is to establish a digital Bill of Materials, stock control, production planning and works order process, with integration to our existing Sage 50 based sales and accounts system. Phase 2 is to move the shop floor to a digital production system with real time digital process control.

Detailed scope of work with objectives, targets and deadlines that the intern would be required to carry out:

To create a digital bill of materials for all parts made by Reynolds. For each part to have a scanned image of the engineering drawing. To create a sales order to works order process. To integrate the warehouse stock and ordering process into CIM50 To create the workflow for parts being dispatched and received from heat treatment and annealing To create a raw material usage capability.

List expected areas of knowledge required:

Basic understanding on Manufacturing processes. Sage 50/ CIM 50 Bill of Materials/ Bill of Process

Please give an overview of your strategy and approach to digitalisation

Reynolds currently has a limited digital footprint and for production planning it is largely an Excel and paper based approach. The aim is to move to a digital integrated manufacturing planning process. This initially is to make the manufacturing planning digital, and to then migrate the shopfloor to a point where activities and jobs are no longer paper based. The objective is to introduce better traceability, better visibility of what jobs are in progress and reduce the amount of manual chasing. This will then also reduce the amount of WIP on the shop floor as any outstanding jobs will be queued on the appropriate workstation. This will lead to better productivity through better machine and personnel utilisation.

Please provide a work plan:

Create a digital BOM, with assigned drawing. Create a process to create work orders from customer orders Create and populate a raw material database Develop a process to update warehouse stocks from completed work orders Develop a MRP that identifies machine and people loadings Develop a Trial kitting capability from finished warehouse parts and raw material stocks

Computer literate Ability to create dashboards and graphs within software packages Able to understand manufacturing processes Able to understand customer ordering Understanding of machine and labour capacities. Good communication skills and a team worker.
