Apply your STEM skills to shape the future of healthcare.
The NHS is one of the world's largest and most complex organisations, serving millions of patients every day. Behind every healthcare service is a network of people, technology, data, infrastructure and resources working together to deliver outstanding care.
The NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS) is one of the UK's leading graduate development programmes, offering ambitious graduates the opportunity to tackle real-world challenges, lead meaningful change and accelerate their careers in healthcare leadership.
Whether you're interested in digital transformation, data and analytics, finance, people management, operational leadership or engineering infrastructure, GMTS provides a fast-track route into influential roles where your work can help improve healthcare services for patients and communities across England.
Through a combination of workplace placements, professional development and fully funded postgraduate study, you'll gain the skills, experience and confidence needed to become a future NHS leader.
The NHS needs people who can solve complex problems, analyse information, manage projects and lead innovation.
Graduates from engineering, technology, computer science, mathematics, data science, physics and other STEM disciplines bring valuable skills that help address challenges such as:
You don't need a clinical background to make a significant impact. If you're curious, analytical and motivated to improve how services are delivered, the NHS offers opportunities to apply your skills on a scale few organisations can match.
Our five specialist pathways offer different routes into NHS leadership:
Whichever route you choose, you'll work on projects that improve services, support staff, transform healthcare delivery and help deliver better outcomes for patients.
From day one, you'll be trusted with meaningful work and supported to grow.
Benefits include:
Each year, around 250 graduates join GMTS, becoming part of a thriving community of trainees, alumni and NHS leaders. You'll receive support from placement managers, pastoral managers and trainee buddies throughout your journey.
After completing the scheme, you'll join a respected alumni network that includes senior NHS leaders across the country. Graduates typically progress quickly into leadership and specialist roles, with average first post-scheme earnings of around £44,000.
We look for candidates with leadership potential and an ambition to make a difference. You'll need at least a 2:2 degree but more importantly, we're looking for graduates with the potential to lead, learn and make a positive impact.
We value curiosity, resilience, analytical thinking, collaboration and a desire to improve healthcare for patients and communities but importantly we're looking for people who can tackle challenges, inspire others and help shape the future of healthcare.
