De Montfort University (DMU) Engineers is a student-led society that aims to provide opportunities for our members to achieve their full potential. We go above and beyond to make this possible and have an array of different ages within DMU Engineers, this is beneficial as you can interact and learn from people.
We have a variety of different things that we do such as regular socials which maintain a calm fun atmosphere where everyone has the chance to chat and relax. We also work alongside a company called Remap which creates unique pieces of special equipment tailor-made to aid people with disabilities. They assign us projects that we can help with in our workshop to develop our practical skills.
We also have links with Formula racing and work alongside them to help out wherever necessary. This opportunity is limited to only DMU Engineers and Formula Racing so it is an exclusive event to help partake in creating a Formula Student car. There have been many successful trips with DMU Engineers. Last year we went to Stuttgart Germany to visit the Mercedes Benz and Porsche museum and this year we have organised a guided tour to CERN in Switzerland.
We have reached out to a company called Remap (Rehabilitation, Engineering & Movement Advisory Panels).
Remap is a very special charity, working through a nationwide network of dedicated volunteers including retired engineers and mathematicians who came together in their own time to use their ingenuity and skills to help people with disabilities to achieve much-desired independence in some aspect of their lives, or to enjoy leisure opportunities previously closed to them. Remap appliances are made to measure specifically where 'off the shelf' solutions are not available for a client's unique problem, and clients can send in requests of what they need.
Starting this January, they will begin assigning us certain projects that we can help with to gain some experience.
