The University of Liverpool Motorsport Team (ULM) consists of both 3rd and 4th year students studying for an Integrated Masters in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Liverpool. The start of each academic year marks the beginning of a new season, throughout which the team will design, build and test a brand-new entry to the annual Formula Student UK competition, FSUK.

Held at Silverstone during the summer, FSUK attracts teams from across the globe to compete, learn and win. As a student run project, 4th years act as the management team while 3rd years act as junior team members. As well as the design process, all team members take part in various manufacturing processes such as carbon fibre layup. This is a vital process as the team are currently working on a fourth-generation carbon monocoque chassis, as well as a full carbon fibre aerodynamics package.
With 14 cars worth of experience, as well as a 1st place finish in the 2019 Cost and Manufacturing Event at FSUK, this year’s team are determined to deliver the most successful ULM car to date.
The team competed at the Formula Student UK Competition in July where we won the Class 1 Cost Event at Formula Student UK 2019. The team also achieved 13th and 23rd places in the business and design events respectively. Overall the team finished 5th out of the Russell Group Universities. The key features of the car made for this year were a carbon fibre monocoque, full aero and direct suspension.
Each year, the team are given the opportunity to exhibit our car at the prestigious British and Midland Hill-Climb Competition held in Prescott, Gloucester. This year 8 fourth year team members attended the Prescott Hill Climb and were taken on a tour of the Bugatti museum, followed by a complimentary breakfast with the other Formula Student Teams in attendance.
