Cardiff Physics and Astronomy Society (Chaos)

The Chaos Society is for students studying Physics and Astronomy at Cardiff University and also for those non-physics students with an interest in Physics!

We run lots of socials and trips and have our own sports teams!

The facts

Cardiff School of Physics and Astronomy’s only official course-based society.
Professor Jane Greaves, who led the project that discovered phosphine on Venus, appeared at our Venus debate.
Professor Mike Edmunds often performs an opera about Isaac Newton at our academic events.
Our mascot is a Royal Python named Ligo!

Recent projects:

Moon bounce off the surface of Mars - co-operation with the Cardiff Amateur Radio Society, projected radio messages on to the Moon’s surface.

Is there life on Venus? - Debate with Trinity College Dublin’s Space Society on the existence of life on Venus after the recent discovery of phosphine in the planet’s atmosphere, featuring Professor Jane Greaves.
