SUFST is a student-run organisation within Southampton University with the aim to design, build, test, and race a formula-style electric race car. We participate annually in IMechE Formula Student competitions, primarily FSUK held at the Silverstone Circuit. We have an interest in sustainability, and we are taking steps towards reducing our impact on the environment. We have a multitude of team members going into prestigious placement and graduate jobs in industries like Formula One, Automotive, Aerospace, Defence and more.
STAG X was our 12th car, and 3rd EV, and first ever running EV. It is made up of a single EMRAX 228 MV LC motor with a limited slip differential, custom accumulator with 8 segments and 480 cells, and a full carbon fibre monocoque and aero bodywork.
At FSUK 2024 we placed 18th overall, having passed all of scrutineering, competing in the Endurance event, placing 8th in Engineering Designing, and 10th in Cost and Manufacturing. We also placed 2nd in the FSUK Sim Race Series Championship, won the Lap Time Simulation Award and the Racing Pride Aston Martin Diversity and Inclusion Award.
SUFST regularly participates in engineering exhibitions, factory tours, and outreach events. Last year, the team toured the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team Factory and Aston Martin Lagonda Facilities after winning the Racing Pride Aston Martin Diversity and Inclusion Award. We also toured Prodrive, exhibited at Advanced Engineering and VentureFest South, and engaged with the local Beavers Group. These activities help us connect with industry leaders, show off our work, inspire the next generation of engineers, and strengthen ties with the wider community.
SUFST started the 2025 season with 420 members, managed by 22 committee members, split between 16 departments in 6 Groups, and managed by the Senior Leadership Team. This year’s senior leadership team and team layout:
