We are the Genetics Society at Queen Mary University of London; a group of keen students who are either studying genetics, or still are interested in this field!
Monthly events are held on campus to explore the basics of genetics, disorders, treatment and therapy, and learn about clinical trials, genetic counselling and screening. Active engagement outside campus (i.e. on social media with interactive quizzes) further demonstrates the enthusiasm in our society.
We were asked to promote submissions of creative art featuring Mendel’s work, as part of a competition.
We held a journal club focusing on a paper which looked at the olfactory receptors in breast cancer.
Icebreaker for committee members, and formally introducing other members.
Promoting our society and getting word out to other students of the benefits of joining our society.
We also held these events last academic year: History of genetics/ Rare genetic disorders talk, Down Syndrome talk, genetic counselling talk by an academic, and another talk on family pedigrees.
