We are Salford Racing, the University of Salford's Formula Student Team. Comprised of students from a variety of disciplines, we focus our efforts on planning, designing, and building a race car to compete in the annual IMechE Formula Student competition. Members of our engineering, business, and media teams work together closely to achieve the most from the great opportunity Formula Student provides.
The passion of the team was felt during the recent Formula Student 2023 event. After the underwhelming but expected result of 2022, our goal was simple and realistic: get through scrutineering and improve upon our previous static event results.
Formula Student is a global engineering competition for university teams, involving the design, construction, and operation of Formula-style race cars in events such as Acceleration, Skid-pad, Autocross, Fuel Economy, and Endurance. Participation requires meticulous planning and organization to navigate scrutineering and present a comprehensive package to judges. The annual Formula Student UK event is held at Silverstone after the Formula 1 British Grand Prix weekend.
This year, we struggled to get our car to pass scrutineering but we did it nonetheless with a humongous amount of effort from our team, we managed to make it to the noise test, but the engine let us down by not starting.
Nevertheless, it was a great experience from the team with Business and Cost performing well for us to finish 46th (out of 61) wotj 157 points. We took away lots from this and we aim to come back bigger and better next year!
In the early academic year of 2023, the society went to Paintballing to Delta Force in Eccles.
The team was split into 2 and then we played 3 games accros 3 maps.
The team found it really fun and we’re currently planning the next one!
