The Cranfield Aeronautical Society is a student body that promotes aviation, aerospace engineering and related activities within and beyond the Cranfield University Campus.
With Cranfield University being a name long associated with aerospace, the CAeS aims to be its members’ and students’ portal into the various facilities operated by Cranfield and its partners, with an emphasis on hands-on technical experience. We organise various industry and museum visits, guest lectures, aircraft visits and competitions to engage our members in the world of aerospace!
Industry visits provide valuable insight into the inner workings of various organisations, and a platform for our members to connect to professionals in these industries.
Recently, the CAeS organised a 2-day visit to the Airbus Broughton facility, where members and students learnt about the wing manufacturing process and assembly operations.
A visit to one of our favourite aircraft, the EE Lightning which is being maintained on-campus, was facilitated in June. Members and students got up-and-close, experiencing the cockpit and engine bay, and had a chance to talk with former RAF pilots of the Lightning!
In 2022, Mr.Kwame Bekoe, a Commercial Director at Zero and a former Airbus Business Director, gave a talk about the future of the aviation market and challenges.
More recently, Business Integration Manager Mr. Leith Chouaieb from Airbus gave a talk about Digitalisation, AI and Supply Chain Management in the field of commercial aviation.
