Introducing SPAD
Saints Performance Automotive Design (SPAD) is the University of St Andrews Formula Student team, a team dedicated to promoting automotive engineering and sustainability. Our mission is to provide equal opportunities to students interested in engineering, transcending barriers of background, experience, and expertise. At SPAD, we hope to foster an environment of inquisitive learning with support from industry experts and university professors.
SPAD is firmly committed to promoting a sustainable ethos among the next generation of engineers. Recognising the urgent need to address environmental challenges, we are dedicated to integrating eco-friendly solutions, fostering innovation in sustainable technologies, and inspiring our members to become responsible leaders. Through our unwavering pursuit of excellence and our dedication to sustainability, SPAD is preparing our members to be the ethical, forward-thinking engineers of tomorrow.
We hosted a CAD workshop alongside Robotics Society and the Engineering and and Aerospace Society. SPAD hosted the workshop, teaching the societies about the fundamentals of CAD in Fusion360, and our attendees each made bevel gears in CAD!
Our SPAD x STATIC event encapsulated innovation within the field of engineering and material science. The evening was in collaboration with the St Andrews Technological & Innovation Club (STATIC) where presentations were given by SPAD members, outlining recent discoveries and research within these fields. The event was open to students of all disciplines and years of study.
SPAD’s first round of driver trials were held in Dundee. Candidates competed for selection to race our electric vehicle at Silverstone circuit!
SPAD recently had the pleasure of hosting two software development engineers from Amazon Edinburgh, the event involved a walk-through of an internship application including tips for CVs, cover letters, and interviews. With an exciting and engaging discussion at the end on the importance of diversity in STEM.
