Durham ChemSoc

We provide student-led academic support, interesting discussions beyond the limits of lectures by highlighting the cutting-edge research going on in the department, and socials of all kinds including the heavily subscribed annual ball!

Members of ChemSoc are granted access to directed support across various divisions of the chemistry department, and can receive discounts on all socials and events. We also provide advice and events relating to careers for chemists.

Projects
  • We run mentor sessions every few weeks to provide a space for students from all years to ask for academic support or for older years to become mentors themselves.
  • We are currently working on setting up and running a Chemistry careers fair.
Events/Socials
  • We run fortnightly socials, to help students meet more people from their year or other years. We ran a lab coat bar crawl in full attire. We also run bar crawls with other Science societies like our tied social with BioSoc.
  • We have also hosted a very popular pub quiz in the SU bar which is always well attended.
  • Every year, we also host the ChemBall - a summer charity event where we celebrate the year and all things Chemistry!
