The Chemistry Society at Queen Mary University of London is well known amongst both students and the chemistry department faculty as being a place where anyone with a passion for chemistry will feel right at home.
Social events are very important to us as a society, and we believe that fostering a community of people who enjoy both chemistry and each other’s company is the hallmark of a great ChemSoc. Themed pub crawls, pizza nights, and chemistry bingo are all great examples of the types of events we like to put on for our members. This does not mean, however, that we eschew the more academic events. Far from it! Evening talks from faculty members on their current research, careers workshops, and guest lecturers from outside of the university are staples of what we offer our members.
We welcome anyone with an interest in chemistry to attend our events and get to know our members. We have a great community of people in our society, and we welcome new members with open arms!
We host a variety of different speakers throughout the academic year. These range from academics the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences at QMUL to representatives from the Royal Society of Chemistry.
During the final week of both semesters A and B, the QMUL ChemSoc runs a chemistry-themed pub crawl close to the campus, allowing ChemSoc members to blow off a little steam and see what the surrounding area has to offer.
Every six weeks we welcome teams of ChemSoc members to partake in our Chemistry Quiz Night. Themed questions, music rounds, and a raffle (with what other than a plethora of chemistry-themed gifts to win) make these nights incredibly popular with our members.
