Future STEM Leaders is dedicated to nurturing aspiring leaders in STEM fields.
We aim to support students' growth by providing opportunities to interact with industry experts, fostering a supportive network, and promoting awareness of diverse leadership roles and essential skill development.
Diverse Leadership: Future STEM Leaders is led by a team of four passionate PhD students who bring diverse expertise, perspectives and culture to the table. Our committee hails from Zimbabwe, India, Italy and Nigeria.
Industry Engagement: The society stands out for its strong emphasis on connecting students with industry experts. Through workshops, networking events, and guest speaker sessions, members have the opportunity to gain insights into real-world applications of STEM and establish valuable connections for their future careers.
Impactful Initiatives: Despite its relatively short existence, Future STEM Leaders has already made a notable impact within the university community and beyond. We were recently featured in the university’s internal news channels.
Skill Development: Future STEM Leaders prioritises the holistic development of its members by offering workshops and training sessions focused on essential skills such as communication, leadership, and project management. This not only enhances students' academic and professional capabilities but also equips them with valuable competencies for success in their future endeavours.
We launched our society at the refreshers' fair in January 2024, where we had the opportunity to meet bright and ambitious STEM students, chat about our society’s mission and inspire future generations of leaders. At the heart of our discussions was the importance of cultivating strong leadership skills to drive a positive change in everyone’s professional journey.
Our society’s inaugural event titled “Leadership Blueprint Masterclass”, was held on February 23, 2024. We had 3 distinguished speakers who discussed fundamental leadership skills and the recruitment landscape.
On March 7th, we got together for an event led by the College of Life Sciences student-staff group and Leicester Mamas to celebrate International Women's Day. We organised a fundraising stall selling snacks, samosas, cakes, tea & coffee to raise money for Women’s Aid Leicestershire.
In the future, we also plan to host game nights, panel talks, career and further education webinars and insight days.
We are hoping to expand our team in the coming new year!
