CyberSoc is the University of York’s cyber security society. We are a dedicated bunch of enthusiasts and learners and host a range of fun activities for beginners and veterans of cyber security alike.
We are open to all students and encourage any students with an interest in cyber security to come along no matter their department or degree.
We host weekly talks or workshops on a range of cyber security topics delivered by our committee and other members. Each year we cover some of the key pillars of cyber security – red teaming, blue teaming, cyber threat intelligence, digital forensics and incident response and cryptography. We then deliver other talks based on the interests of our committee and members – examples of talks include hacktivism, online fingerprinting and cryptocurrency.
We also deliver workshops to give our members the opportunity to develop their practical skills - examples of workshops include Linux skills, web hacking and CTF practice. We also run other events throughout the year including guest speakers, study sessions, mini CTFs and quizzes. After each event, we go to the campus bar to chat about all things cyber and beyond.
