Sheffield Aerospace Engineering Society (AeroSoc)

We're the departmental society for Aerospace Engineering at the University of Sheffield. We host a variety of events including nights out, walks in the peaks, charity fundraisers but what sets us apart from other societies is our commitment to your professional development.

Since September we have hosted 8 educational events including guest lectures, site tours and revision quizzes, with plenty more still to come! Being a member of our society and attending these events allows you to keep up-to-date with developments in the sector and to network, both with academics and industry professionals, putting you in good stead for applying for jobs after graduation.

Events/Socials

We have hosted a variety of industry professionals from companies such as Ansys, Vertical Aerospace, Space Health Research and the Aerospace Technology Institute. Coming up this semester we will also be welcoming Astroscale, a space sector company specialising in in-orbit servicing of satellites.

We also do site tours. A few weeks ago, we visited the SAF-IC, a research facility specialising in the production and combustion of power-to-liquid sustainable aviation fuel.

Coming up we will also be touring the Royce Discovery Centre, a facility specialising in advanced metal manufacturing processes. We have also hosted talks from professors who have discussed their research areas in-depth, such as Dr Yuanbo Nie who discussed advances in the field of control engineering and their significance to the next generation of aircraft. In the lead up to semester 1 exams we also hosted a light-hearted revision quiz for students to brush up on their modules.

Aside from educational events we have also hosted a variety of socials, both drinking and sober socials. We also successfully raised £1300 as part of our Movember fundraiser last November, helping to combat testicular cancer, prostate cancer and men's suicide. We also have two football teams, an 11 a side and a 6 a side, who go head to head against other societies in Wednesday afternoon tournaments.
