Engineers Without Borders LSBU (London South Bank University) is a student led chapter of the global Engineers Without Borders UK movement, working to put global responsibility at the heart of engineering.
We bring together students from engineering, design and sustainability to explore how technical skills can be used to create positive social and environmental change.
Our activities range from creative, hands-on projects and community workshops to sustainability challenges and outreach events. Each initiative is designed to develop practical skills while encouraging systems thinking, collaboration and awareness of the real world impact of engineering decisions.
Open to all LSBU students, our chapter is a space for people who believe engineering can be inclusive, regenerative and a force for good, locally and globally.
Our first social brought together over 40 students from across engineering, design, and computing to kick off the academic year.
Supported by the Students’ Union, it was LSBU’s first cross-disciplinary STEM community event focused on creativity, collaboration, and sustainability.
Students took part in icebreakers, quizzes, and a spaghetti and marshmallow tower challenge, creating a relaxed and engaging way for people to connect, share ideas, and learn more about the chapter.
The Repair and Learn Hub is our new chapter project, developed with support from Engineers Without Borders UK and RS Group, after placing second nationally in The Big Pitch 2025.
We received £750 in funding to bring this idea to life. The Hub will create a space where students and local community members come together to repair everyday items and learn practical skills around sustainability and design.
Students will be trained by LSBU staff and technical experts before working alongside members of the community during the repair sessions. Each event will focus on a different theme, such as electronics, small appliances, textiles, or furniture, while highlighting the role of engineering in creating sustainable solutions.
Our goal is to make sustainability hands-on and accessible, giving students real-world experience while supporting a culture of repair and reuse across campus.
The Hub will officially launch in January 2026 and we hope it will become a lasting part of LSBU’s approach to community learning and responsible engineering.
