The Mechanical Engineering Society at Aston University is a student-led organisation committed to supporting and enhancing the experience of Mechanical Engineering and related engineering students. We bring together students from all year groups to create a welcoming, inclusive community that promotes academic success, professional development, and personal growth.
Our society provides a range of academic support initiatives, including peer mentoring, revision sessions, and skills-based workshops, designed to help students develop both technical knowledge and confidence throughout their studies. Alongside this, we actively engage with industry by hosting guest speakers, employer networking events, and career-focused sessions, giving our members valuable insight into real-world engineering applications and graduate opportunities.
Beyond academics and careers, we place strong emphasis on community and wellbeing. Through inclusive social events and collaborative activities, we encourage meaningful connections between students across different year groups and disciplines, helping to foster a strong sense of belonging within the School of Engineering.
The Mechanical Engineering Society also represents the collective voice of Mechanical Engineering students at Aston University, working closely with academic staff and university bodies to ensure student feedback is heard and acted upon. Our aim is to enrich the student journey, empower future engineers, and build a supportive engineering community that extends beyond graduation.
The Mechanical Engineering Society at Aston University kicked off the academic year with a highly successful Meet & Greet event, welcoming students from all year groups to connect, network, and learn more about the society’s mission and upcoming activities.
The event introduced attendees to the society’s purpose and vision, highlighting our commitment to academic support, professional development, and building a strong, inclusive engineering community. Members of the committee were formally introduced, giving students the opportunity to meet the team behind the society and learn how they can get involved throughout the year.
To keep the event interactive and engaging, we hosted a fun engineering-themed Kahoot quiz, allowing students to test their engineering knowledge in a relaxed, social environment. This encouraged participation, friendly competition, and helped break the ice between students from different year groups. Winner
The Meet & Greet saw strong attendance and engagement, reflecting the enthusiasm of students to connect with peers and be part of an active engineering society. Food and drinks were provided, creating a welcoming and informal atmosphere that encouraged conversation and networking. All members were also entered into a raffle and the winner was announced on the spin the wheel at the event and the winner won a Lego Car.
