What to Expect

We are recruiting for Industrial Placement Interns to join our fantastic Core Technology team within IT & Digital at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. As an Intern, you will gain hands-on experience across the Core Technology team while developing your skills in a world-class, high-performance automotive environment. 

This is a 12-month full-time Industrial Placement designed to build your technical capabilities, commercial awareness, and confidence working across a fast-paced technology function.

Please note this is an on-site position.

What You'll Do

During your Industrial Placement, you’ll spend the year embedded in one of our core specialist teams, gaining meaningful, project-based experience and contributing to key operational and strategic objectives.

• Support the teams responsible for maintaining and enhancing McLaren's core technology platforms and services. 
• Gain exposure to areas such as IT Operations, Infrastructure, Cloud Technologies, Cyber Security and End User Computing. 
• Assist with the monitoring, support and continuous improvement of business-critical systems and services. 
• Help investigate technology issues, identify root causes and contribute to problem resolution activities. 
• Support the delivery of technology projects that improve reliability, security and user experience. 
• Participate in cyber security awareness, governance and compliance activities. 
• Work with colleagues across IT & Digital to understand how technology enables business operations across Engineering, Manufacturing, Commercial and Corporate Functions. 
• Assist with reporting, documentation and analysis of service performance, trends and operational metrics. 
• Contribute ideas to improve operational efficiency, automation and service delivery. 
• Gain hands-on experience with modern workplace technologies, cloud platforms and enterprise IT services.

You’ll also have access to development workshops, mentorship, and structured performance reviews to support your career growth and professional development. 

What You'll Bring

• Currently studying towards a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Data 
• Analytics, Business Technology or a related discipline. 
• A genuine interest in technology and how it supports business success. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
• An eagerness to learn about infrastructure, cloud services, cyber security and IT operations. 
• Basic understanding of IT concepts such as networks, devices, applications or cloud technologies. 
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain ideas clearly. 
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail. 
• Confidence working independently while also collaborating effectively within a team. 
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications would be advantageous. 
• A proactive approach to learning and personal development.
