Cory annually processes c.1.5million tonnes of non-recyclable waste and recovers the energy to generate c.1.2million MWh of electricity at the Riverside EfW campus.
The company uses the River Thames as a “green highway” to move waste from London on tugs and barges, effectively removing 100,000 truck movements a year off London’s busy roads. By generating electricity from residual waste, the plant is improving resource efficiency, avoiding landfill use and achieving greater sustainability as part of London’s circular economy.
Cory is in the process of expanding its operation at the Belvedere site and currently construction of a second EfW facility is underway with completion expected in 2026.
Role and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Process Engineer, you will be responsible for:
Control, regulation and monitoring of a chemical injection process for boiler water, steam, feed water and condensate systems to comply with the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s recommended levels and recognised industry standards.
Maintaining a maintenance regime for site water deionisation plant and monitor performance.
Understand and control substances hazardous to health associated with site.
Understand boiler fireside corrosion/erosion.
Understand the chemical processes involved in site flue gas treatment:
SNCR/SCR ammonia dosing
Hydrated lime dosing
Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) dosing
Manage the site Environmental Permit in conjunction with the management team and the Environmental Agency as requested, this includes:
Sampling, monitoring and reporting Air Pollution Control residue (APCr) chemistry
Sampling, monitoring and reporting Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) chemistry
Emissions to Air monitoring and reporting
Quarterly waste transfer reporting
Soil and grass monitoring and trending
Internal site sustainability reporting against set targets.

About You
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
A degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (essential)
Prior experience working in large process engineering environments such as Power, Petrochemicals, COMAH sites, etc would be desirable.
Experience/knowledge of analytical laboratory chemistry techniques
Good stakeholder, both internal and external, relationship management
Practical experience of working within a Health and Safety conscious environment
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and take initiative where required
A systematic approach to problem solving
Advanced IT skills in MS Office
