I am Cristian, a 3rd year Product Design Engineer studying at Loughborough University. I am 6 months into my placement year at medmix as a product design & test engineer intern.
During my time here, I have had the opportunity to work with the Innovation Team and contribute my ideas to the development of new products. I was given the responsibility of testing and validating prototypes for new products within my first week of starting!
Most of my time is spent in the prototyping lab, where I help create assemblies of components and test rigs to validate design changes. This involves setting up prototypes to undergo lifecycle simulations by subjecting them to repetitive loads. I have also been involved in testing ergonomics, wiring up electrical components, and conducting tensile tests on different components. There is a constant variety of activities with which I am involved.
This placement has been an amazing chance to learn about what goes into the product development process. I have been lucky enough to join medmix near the start of a large innovation project and this has helped me learn what steps need to be taken to produce a successful product. This includes seeing how important other sectors of the business such as marketing, finance and management are at ensuring a successful product is produced.
I have also learned new methods of solving problems. Working alongside more experienced engineers means that I am exposed to their ways of thinking that I can implement in my future work to produce better and more efficient solutions to problems. Every day I am learning new and exciting things.
I have enjoyed my placement so much and it has helped me understand that I want to continue pursuing a career in product design and engineering. I have found everyone at Medmix to be kind and helpful, and the work environment is very enjoyable. Overall, my experience at medmix has been very rewarding and useful for my own professional development, and I highly recommend undergoing a placement here.
