How long have you been with National Gas?
I have been with National Gas for 10 months now.
What are the main tasks in your role?
As I am involved in series of projects, my major tasks involve:
- Stakeholder engagement.
- Managing project plans and timelines by creating a plan on a page.
- Assisting the Project Managers and Supervisors on the team to deliver their deliverables within allocated timelines.
- Get involved in the safety studies for the projects we are involved in, currently being Project Union for hydrogen and Carbon Capture and storage up in Scotland.
- Creating an Engineering Justification Paper on Climate Change Adaptation in line with our business plan requirements set out by OFGEM our regulators
- Communicating with Contractors on bids and tenders, RFI’s and overall changes to project scopes.
What does a day in the life look like?
A typical day in my life involves:
- A lot of engagement of stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across the business to gather information and collate data collected.
- Reviewing and revising the view of the business assets impacted by climate change
- Writing up sections of the RIIO-3 plan to support the climate change related funding request to OFGEM.
- Meeting with contractors to maintain visibility of the project timelines, to highlight any delays that could occur.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
What I enjoy the most about my role is the opportunity it provides me with by getting involved in these projects that are key for decarbonization and achieving Net-Zero by 2050. It gives me purpose knowing that I am contributing to the Net-Zero goal and makes the role very exciting overall. Plus, there is always room to learn more in the business.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining a Graduate programme?
If you are looking to make a difference, be somewhere with numerous opportunities and areas to learn, don’t want to be doing the same thing over an extended period, work with deeply knowledgeable and diverse people, you should join the Graduate Program. Most importantly you will be contributing to a clean energy future. How exciting!
