Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

The Public Sector Equality Duty (to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity, and foster good relations) applies to both our service users and the people we employ (police officers and staff).

On the 10th September 2011, the Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011 came into force. In order to comply with the Specific Duties, Police Forces in England and Wales are required to produce ‘one or more equality objectives’ that they think they should achieve to:

  • Eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Equality Act 2010;
  • Advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it;
  • Foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.

Our equality objectives

Following consultation and engagement with members of our public, and our staff and officers, the following objectives have been agreed as the priorities for the Force:

  • To increase the diversity of our workforces so that we are truly representative of our communities.
  • To ensure that once in employment, our diverse workforce is being treated fairly and equitably.
  • To improve our understanding of our diverse communities in order to ensure that our services are fit for purpose, and that all of our communities have a voice in policing.
  • To ensure that we are effectively identifying and reacting to issues relating to community cohesion with a view to reducing the number of hate related crimes and incidents being committed within our Force area.

Dyfed-Powys Police is committed to recruiting more people from our diverse communities in order to be fully representative of the communities we serve.
