Amentum is seeking a Digital and Technical Solutions Apprentice to support our digital transformation. This is a broad, hands-on role that offers an individual the exciting opportunity to support our digital projects and strategy.

This role would suit someone with a keen interest in new technology, is proficient in a broad range of computing skills such as the use of AI LLMs, extended reality products, and willing to support a variety of digital related projects.

This role is based in our Warrington office and will work closely with our Digital Enablement Lead, providing the organisation with the tools, skills, and knowledge needed to effectively use digital technologies to improve business processes, increase efficiency, and enhance customer experiences. Bridging the gap between adopting new technology and successfully integrating it into daily operations, ensuring employees can maximise its benefits and the business achieves its goal.

This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a future career in digital transformation and business enablement, offering progression opportunities within Amentum for those who demonstrate commitment, curiosity, and a passion for deploying new technology appropriately.

The duration of this apprenticeship will be: 48 months.

With support, you will:

  • Act as a bridge between the Engineering/Scientific/Programme Management Office and IT team, improving the digital tools available to support their work.
  • Work with IT teams on secure, compliant rollouts of new digital tools and technologies.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and software tools for business applicability, to enhance business efficiency and opportunities.
  • Organising business information and making it accessible.
  • Assist our AI LLM rollout, including the development of AI agents in collaboration with engineers for task automation.

For this role you must have:

  • GCSE in Computer Science or similar Digital Technology subject at level 8+
  • Minimum 7 x GCSE's levels 4 – 9
  • You will need to be eligible for and obtain National Security Vetting (NSV) at Security Check (SC) level to perform your duties in this role. Please click and follow the link for more information of what is required.

Topics of interest to us, to support your application:

  • AI and Large Language Models (LLMs): Understanding of LLMs, including practical experience with public tools like ChatGPT, Grok, Claude, or similar. Knowledge of differences between models (e.g. in capabilities, biases, response styles, and ethical considerations), awareness of requirements for local deployment (e.g. hardware needs, data privacy).
  • VBA Coding in Excel: Proficiency in developing, debugging, and maintaining VBA scripts for automation.
  • Unreal Engine: Practical knowledge of using Unreal Engine or other game development products. Setting up or using VR headsets.
  • Image Manipulation Software: Ability to use Photoshop or other image manipulation products.
  • HTML and CSS Coding: Experience in building and editing web pages.

  • Curiosity and Process Improvement: Innate interest in understanding company processes (e.g., engineering workflows, documentation handling) and identifying opportunities for digital enhancements to streamline operations.
  • Stakeholder Management: Personable communication style to build relationships, manage expectations, and collaborate with engineering colleagues, IT teams, and leadership on tool adoption and change initiatives.
