The role

The Graduate Electrical Engineer role will involve many aspects of design, maintenance and commissioning of excitation control, generator protection and synchronising systems.

The role is based at our offices in Tamworth, Staffordshire, with opportunities to work from our new office in Inverness, collaborating on projects across Scotland that support renewable energy and net zero initiatives.

As a Graduate Electrical Engineer you will always be contributing to active projects, engaging directly with other engineers, suppliers and customers giving you real experience. You will be given small projects to manage independently and will form part of the team on larger projects. You will work closely within our team of experts and you will be fully supported and encouraged to take on significant responsibilities.

You will contribute to the design process where you will be required to produce PLC software for a number of different manufacturer’s equipment, make detailed calculations, use electronic drawing packages and write technical specifications and reports to communicate your ideas.

Your training will include hands on experience where you will have the opportunity to work with test equipment and instrumentation at our facilities and on customer sites in the UK and overseas, where you will put your theoretical knowledge to practice in order to design, fault find, maintain or commissioning excitation control systems.

Formal training courses and the opportunity to attend conferences and seminars will be offered alongside on the job training and guidance. We will support you with engineering institute membership fees and start you on your journey towards professional accreditation. 

The Graduate Electrical Engineer role at EES will expose you to the day to day operations of a growing electrical engineering business operating worldwide in the power industry. It will provide direct experience with detailed electrical engineering design, maintenance and commissioning, as well as an appreciation of project management, contract management and risk, and business development. The graduate training period will last approximately two years following which you will have the opportunity to become an EC&I Engineer or to apply for another role within the business.

Qualification and Skills Requirement:

  • Achieved a minimum 2:1 Bachelor degree in an Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control and Instrumentation, or any other Instrumentation, Control or Computer Science related degree
  • An accredited Master's degree is preferable
  • A-Level or equivalent qualifications (ONC/HNC) including at least one STEM subject. 
  • Relevant work experience gained through placement, internship or apprenticeship (or equivalent)
  • Able to demonstrate extra-curricular participation in science and engineering related activities
  • Experience working in a team to deliver a common goal
  • Confident promoting their own ideas
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to solve problems
  • Able to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks
  • Desire and commitment to achieve professional registration status
