You’ll work alongside experienced consultants on projects spanning decommissioning, strategic waste management, characterisation and practical R&D trials — learning fast, contributing early and building technical expertise from day one.

The Role

As a member of the Consultancy Services Division, Graduate Consultant supports consultancy services to clients on a wide range of projects in the fields of radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration.

Key Objectives

  • Training
    Undertake training to gain the core skills and experience necessary to competently deliver the tasks required and to progress effectively within the company.
  • Business
    Consultancy Services
    Promote the image and reputation of NSG and the Consultancy Services Division. Support the delivery of Consultancy work, externally and to NSG Operating Divisions.
  • Technical Support
    Provide technical support to Business Development teams involved in generating internal and external work for NSG Environmental Ltd.
  • Accountabilities
    Accountable to task or project manager for timescales and costs of defined scope of work. Accountable to line manager for utilisation, including notifying when at risk of being over- or under-utilised.
  • Bid Support
    Support the preparation of bids within Consultancy and NSG as a whole.
  • Technical Competence and Support
    Provide technical support in area of expertise associated with decommissioning, waste management and environmental remediation. Develop competence in technical areas of decommissioning, waste management and environmental remediation. Produce high quality documents to support decommissioning and waste management projects e.g. Best Available Technique, Letter of Compliance submissions, waste characterisation documents, experimental and technology reports. Support studies, including laboratory trials, to support radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration. Support the preparation of procedural/guidance documents, with (e.g. work instructions, risk assessments). Provide support to projects in the fields of radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration. Develop expertise and currency in industry best practice.
  • Liaison and Support
    Liaise with delivery team as relevant for activities, tasks and projects to which assigned. Liaise with NSG Operating Divisions and clients; developing and maintaining strong working relationships which will in turn promote NSG Environmental Ltd.’s business ethos. Support meetings and workshops in areas of expertise, both internal and external including provision of technical secretariat. Co-author papers and deliver to internal and external committees/meetings etc.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Recognised professional qualifications (e.g. BSc/MSc/PhD) - Essential
  • Membership of appropriate technical/professional body - Desirable
  • Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent - Relevant training will be provided if required

Experience & Knowledge

  • Developing experience within a particular area(s) of technical competence within the field of decommissioning, waste management or environmental restoration - Essential
  • Experience of applying skills/degree knowledge and qualifications to delivery - Desirable
  • Familiar with structuring and presentation of own work - Essential
  • Used to dealing with confidential and commercial information - Desirable
  • Familiar with integrated management system operating procedures and requirements etc - Essential

Skills & Abilities

  • Competent user of MS Office - Essential
  • Able to organise and prioritise own work - Essential
  • Ability to work independently and be accountable to task or project manager for own work, including understanding of own impact on the schedule and costs - Essential
  • Ability to manage delivery of assigned tasks/activities to time and budget and of high quality - Essential
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of colleagues at all levels and with external stakeholders and contractors - Essential
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 / 14001 & 45001 - Desirable

Package

  • Hours - 37.5 hours per week
  • Overtime – 37.5-60 hours per week – Time and half
  • Overtime – 60+ hours per week or Sundays – Double time
